Is it not enough, for people not having particular health problems, to follow a balanced diet which also includes the right amounts of meat?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Italians seem particularly hungry for probiotics, multivitamins, and multi-minerals, so much that they are <strong>at the top on the European market<\/strong> (with 23%) in the consumption of <strong>food supplements<\/strong>, for a total expenditure of over 3.2 billion euros. Recent Censis research confirms that around <strong>32 million Italians<\/strong> take them, with the aim of leading a <strong>healthy life<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>But who really needs to take these products to <strong>supplement their diet<\/strong>? For example, people in <strong>particular physiological conditions<\/strong>, such as weight loss, pregnancy, breastfeeding, sports recovery. How harmful is depriving oneself of meat during the extreme ages, such as childhood and old age, is well-known, and unfortunately there is no lack of evidence coming from the news. Consequences for healthy adults are less serious, however, they must use <strong>supplements<\/strong>, such as <strong>B vitamins<\/strong>, to make up for possible deficiencies.<\/p>\n<p>But <strong>meat is much more than a<\/strong> <strong>supply of vitamin B<\/strong>. It\u2019s important to keep in mind that choline <strong>is<\/strong> <strong>present in meat and eggs<\/strong>, as always Sustainable Meat recalls in a recent article. <strong>Choline<\/strong>, some argue, is also found in some vegetables, such as soy or lettuce. Once again, however, <strong>the quantities and the effective assimilation of active ingredients make the difference<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s maybe thanks to these substances and to their role in the complicated mechanism of <strong>neurotransmitters<\/strong> if <strong>meat-eaters are less depressed<\/strong> than people following a vegetarian diet. This is confirmed by a recent study published in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cambridge.org\/core\/journals\/british-journal-of-nutrition\/article\/bidirectional-associations-between-food-groups-and-depressive-symptoms-longitudinal-findings-from-the-invecchiare-in-chianti-inchianti-study\/4102DD529FB5711209DE74D55DD91BC2#.XGZUdKeGTv0.email\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">British Journal of Nutrition<\/a> that links the higher incidence of <strong>depressive states<\/strong> to the higher intake of <strong>phytoestrogens<\/strong> following a vegetarian diet.<\/p>\n<span class='bctt-click-to-tweet'><span class='bctt-ctt-text'><a href='https:\/\/x.com\/intent\/tweet?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.carnisostenibili.it%2Fen%2F%3Fp%3D12951&#038;text=Excluding%20%23meat%20from%20your%20%23diet%20can%20lead%20to%20a%20higher%20risk%20of%20%23stroke%20in%2020%25%20of%20cases.&#038;via=SostenCarni&#038;related=SostenCarni' target='_blank'rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Excluding #meat from your #diet can lead to a higher risk of #stroke in 20% of cases. <\/a><\/span><a href='https:\/\/x.com\/intent\/tweet?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.carnisostenibili.it%2Fen%2F%3Fp%3D12951&#038;text=Excluding%20%23meat%20from%20your%20%23diet%20can%20lead%20to%20a%20higher%20risk%20of%20%23stroke%20in%2020%25%20of%20cases.&#038;via=SostenCarni&#038;related=SostenCarni' target='_blank' class='bctt-ctt-btn'rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Share on X<\/a><\/span>\n<p>Another study published by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0896627318302927\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Neuron journal<\/a> highlighted the relationship between <strong>serotonin<\/strong> and the appearance of certain motor pathologies such as <strong>Parkinson&#8217;s<\/strong> or other obsessive-compulsive disorders. Serotonin is synthesized by the body from an essential amino acid, <strong>tryptophan<\/strong>, which the human body is unable to synthesize and which is well represented in meat.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Amino acids<\/strong> and other <strong>bioactive peptides<\/strong> can be found in meat, as a derivative of <strong>protein<\/strong> hydrolysis. Their presence is favoured by the right <strong>maturation of meats<\/strong>, as well as by the <strong>seasoning of cured meats<\/strong>. It is proven that these peptides, readily absorbed without &#8220;fatiguing&#8221; the digestive processes, have numerous positive effects, manifesting <strong>antioxidant and antihypertensive activities<\/strong> in addition to the antithrombotic effects.<\/p>\n<span class='bctt-click-to-tweet'><span class='bctt-ctt-text'><a href='https:\/\/x.com\/intent\/tweet?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.carnisostenibili.it%2Fen%2F%3Fp%3D12951&#038;text=An%20excess%20of%20%23minerals%20or%20%23vitamins%20does%20not%20increase%20the%20beneficial%20effect%20of%20%23supplements.%20On%20the%20contrary%2C%20it%20can%20have%20negative%20%23consequences.&#038;via=SostenCarni&#038;related=SostenCarni' target='_blank'rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">An excess of #minerals or #vitamins does not increase the beneficial effect of #supplements. On the contrary, it can have negative #consequences. <\/a><\/span><a href='https:\/\/x.com\/intent\/tweet?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.carnisostenibili.it%2Fen%2F%3Fp%3D12951&#038;text=An%20excess%20of%20%23minerals%20or%20%23vitamins%20does%20not%20increase%20the%20beneficial%20effect%20of%20%23supplements.%20On%20the%20contrary%2C%20it%20can%20have%20negative%20%23consequences.&#038;via=SostenCarni&#038;related=SostenCarni' target='_blank' class='bctt-ctt-btn'rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Share on X<\/a><\/span>\n<p>This explains the results of the research conducted in Britain at the <strong>University of Oxford<\/strong> by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bmj.com\/content\/366\/bmj.l4897\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Tammy Tong and colleagues<\/a>, who compared the diets followed by almost 50 thousand people, divided between omnivores and vegetarians. As a result, <strong>excluding meat from your diet can lead to higher stroke risk in 20% of cases<\/strong>. The research also showed a higher number of heart diseases among omnivores, the causes of which however were not entirely attributable to the dietary pattern, but to the simultaneous presence of <strong>high blood pressure<\/strong>, excess <strong>cholesterol,<\/strong> and <strong>diabetes<\/strong>. The elimination of these predisposing factors limited the appearance of <strong>heart disease<\/strong>, while the return to physiological values \u200b\u200bin the group of vegetarians did not entail any significant difference in the onset of <strong>stroke<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>About the &#8220;passion&#8221; of the Italians for <strong>food supplements<\/strong>, we recommend their use by following the indications of the doctor or pharmacist and in the face of <strong>real deficiencies<\/strong>. Do-it-yourself, even in this context, is not recommended. An <strong>excess of minerals or vitamins<\/strong> does not increase their beneficial effect, but on the contrary, it can also have <strong>important negative consequences<\/strong>. A <strong>balanced diet<\/strong>, which includes <strong>meat<\/strong> together with all foods admirably listed in the <strong>Mediterranean diet<\/strong>, protects against deficiencies and is the <strong>first guarantee of health<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There is a real boom in supplement consumption in Italy.
