But according to some studies, it is not so.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Lab-grown meat<\/strong> is not as sustainable as we think. New and more accurate studies, such as those cited in the latest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.carnisostenibili.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Meat-Atlas.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>Meat Atlas<\/strong><\/a>, show that its production is more expensive in <strong>energy and water<\/strong> than traditional farms. In addition, a whole series of problems related to its lab cultivation disappoint many expectations.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier studies had presented it as an exceptional <strong>high-tech solution<\/strong>, capable of solving all the problems related to the <strong>environment<\/strong>. Its supposed benefits have been exaggerated, and the spectacular data on its <strong>sustainability<\/strong> vastly inflated. More in-depth recent studies show the reality of the facts instead.<\/p>\n<p>The first point highlighted is the <strong>high energy intensity<\/strong> of the in vitro meat production cycle. So, any potential advantage of this new technology in <strong>emissions<\/strong> into the environment is virtually nullified.<\/p>\n<p>Another problem is <strong>pathogens<\/strong>, such as <strong>bacteria and viruses<\/strong>, that can be created during <strong>in vitro meat cultivation<\/strong>. Contamination by microorganisms is, in fact, a crucial point that is difficult to solve, especially with a future large-scale production. In this regard, <strong>antibiotics<\/strong> will have to be used, precisely those that animal husbandry with so much effort has dramatically reduced.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, to stimulate in <strong>vitro cell growth<\/strong> and create muscle bundles, growth factors such as <strong>sex hormones<\/strong>, banned in animal husbandry in Europe since 1981 because of their potential <strong>health risks<\/strong>, will have to be used. It is then necessary to exploit animals and conflict with the good intentions of the <strong>vegan-animalist ideology<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>If this were not enough, no method has yet been developed that guarantees that <strong>artificial meat<\/strong> has the same nutritional power as real meat in terms of content in fundamental micronutrients. E.g., <strong>vitamin B12<\/strong> and <strong>heme iron<\/strong>, suggesting a <strong>dangerous loss<\/strong> from a nutritional point of view.<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, the <strong>transition<\/strong> from conventional to <strong>cellular-based meat<\/strong> seems unlikely soon due to the <strong>expensive<\/strong> investments it requires and the <strong>prohibitive price<\/strong> of the final product. The most optimistic sector projections assume price parity between the two types of <strong>meat<\/strong> by the early 2030s, while to be comparable in <strong>taste and texture<\/strong>, we will have to wait longer.<\/p>\n<p>If the <strong>in vitro meat<\/strong> market takes hold, there will be a significant shift in employment. <strong>Farmers<\/strong> and <strong>veterinarians<\/strong> will be replaced by chemists and bioengineers and will be a vast and dramatic <strong>loss of jobs<\/strong> throughout the <strong>livestock<\/strong> and <strong>meat processing<\/strong> sector.<\/p>\n<span class='bctt-click-to-tweet'><span class='bctt-ctt-text'><a href='https:\/\/x.com\/intent\/tweet?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.carnisostenibili.it%2Fen%2F%3Fp%3D17660&#038;text=Never%20mind%20the%20%23vegan%20marketing%20and%20propaganda.%20A%20world%20without%20%23Livestock%20%23farming%20would%20be%20a%20real%20%23EnvironmentalTragedy.&#038;via=SostenCarni&#038;related=SostenCarni' target='_blank'rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Never mind the #vegan marketing and propaganda. It is a shame to waste so many <strong>financial resources<\/strong> to support these artifacts that do not benefit our health and the planet. On the contrary, it risks worsening the situation.<\/p>\n<p>Investors should understand <a href=\"https:\/\/www.carnisostenibili.it\/en\/category\/environment-sustainability-en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">that livestock farming plays a decisive role<\/a> in <strong>agroecological practices<\/strong> that protect ecosystems, contributing to a natural balance, like fertilizing lands to preserve the landscapes, <strong>biodiversity<\/strong>, and animal and plant communities.<\/p>\n<p>Whatever people who have never seen or known animals or the countryside say,<strong> a world without farms <\/strong>would be a real <strong>environmental tragedy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lab-grown meat, also known as cultured meat, artificial meat, or in vitro meat, is promoted as an ethical, sustainable, and even &#8220;clean&#8221; production by companies investing large sums in it.
