More recent studies of high scientific rigour have called into question the previous recommendations.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Correlation between red and processed meat consumption and health risk\" width=\"1100\" height=\"619\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2Pka2lfiMZE?start=2&#038;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The benefits of <strong>excluding<\/strong> <strong>red meat<\/strong> from the diet are not sufficiently significant to recommend safely reducing <strong>meat consumption<\/strong> to the entire population. Indeed, new studies reveal that limiting red meat consumption too much is counterproductive for health. According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jclinepi.com\/article\/S0895-4356(21)00216-X\/fulltext\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">opinion paper<\/a> on the new <strong>NutriRECS<\/strong> guidelines, reducing or eliminating red meat from the diet is not linked to significant health improvements. On the contrary, depriving oneself of food of such high nutritional value can be harmful, with <strong>risks<\/strong> that far outweigh the benefits.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.carnisostenibili.it\/en\/new-nutrirecs-guidelines-eating-less-meat-for-health-purposes-is-useless\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">new NutriRECS recommendations<\/a> claim that there is no reliable and credible <strong>evidence<\/strong> reducing the consumption of <strong>red and processed meat<\/strong> leads to a lower risk of <strong>cancer<\/strong>, heart disease or diabetes. On the contrary, <strong>moderate meat consumption<\/strong> is linked to a reduced risk for these pathologies and some types of cancer.<\/p>\n<p>These claims are based on a rigorous method, the <strong>GRADE<\/strong>, which provides reliable and <strong>robust answers<\/strong>. The fact that the complex case of red meat has been dealt with in depth finally sheds light and clarity on a hitherto unresolved issue. Because of the mistakes made in the past and to ensure that they no longer happen, experts in the development of <strong>nutritional guidelines<\/strong> have settled on a solid and transparent study methodology called the &#8220;GRADE&#8221; system (<strong>Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluations<\/strong>). This method is now used by more than 120 healthcare organizations, including some of the most prestigious in the world, such as the World Health Organization, the Cochrane Collaboration and the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence.<\/p>\n<span class='bctt-click-to-tweet'><span class='bctt-ctt-text'><a href='https:\/\/x.com\/intent\/tweet?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.carnisostenibili.it%2Fen%2F%3Fp%3D19390&#038;text=Applying%20the%20%23GRADE%20system%20in%20evaluating%20the%20negative%20health%20effects%20of%20red%20%23meat%20consumption%20versus%20a%20higher%20risk%20of%20cardiovascular%20problems%2C%20it%20appears%20that%20the%20surplus%20has%20very%20limited%20reliability.&#038;via=SostenCarni&#038;related=SostenCarni' target='_blank'rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Applying the #GRADE system in evaluating the negative health effects of red #meat consumption versus a higher risk of cardiovascular problems, it appears that the surplus has very limited reliability. <\/a><\/span><a href='https:\/\/x.com\/intent\/tweet?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.carnisostenibili.it%2Fen%2F%3Fp%3D19390&#038;text=Applying%20the%20%23GRADE%20system%20in%20evaluating%20the%20negative%20health%20effects%20of%20red%20%23meat%20consumption%20versus%20a%20higher%20risk%20of%20cardiovascular%20problems%2C%20it%20appears%20that%20the%20surplus%20has%20very%20limited%20reliability.&#038;via=SostenCarni&#038;related=SostenCarni' target='_blank' class='bctt-ctt-btn'rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Share on X<\/a><\/span>\n<p>With the <strong>GRADE method<\/strong>, randomized trials begin with a high level of certainty and scientific quality, excluding limitations from previous studies, such as inaccuracies, biases, <strong>confounding factors<\/strong> and inconsistencies. With over 30 scientific papers published using the <strong>GRADE approach<\/strong>, it has been possible to prove that this system provides a well-proven and highly credible method for assessing the <strong>certainty of evidence<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>By applying the <strong>GRADE system<\/strong> in assessing the negative effects on the health of <strong>red meat consumption<\/strong> compared to a higher risk of cardiovascular problems, it emerges that the previously highlighted evidence has a very low certainty and, therefore, very limited reliability. For this reason, reducing red meat from the diet for health reasons is <strong>questionable<\/strong> today due to the <strong>lack of data on the real benefits<\/strong>, so much so that the current recommendations to limit red and processed meat to the entire population are inappropriate.<\/p>\n<p>The authors of the study claim that when only low-certainty evidence is available, panels dealing with the drafting of nutritional guidelines should <strong>refrain from making strong recommendations<\/strong> to the public because they risk <strong>causing more damage<\/strong> than benefits. The case of <strong>red meat <\/strong>is exemplary because, thanks to GRADE, the advice to reduce such a <strong>nutritious food<\/strong> only based on limited evidence has proved <strong>useless and dangerous<\/strong>, risking causing harmful nutritional deficiencies to the entire population.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, with the GRADE system, it will be possible to <strong>improve the study methodology<\/strong> and have solid foundations for composing the diet for good health. <strong>Clear and transparent communication<\/strong> by health, medical and political organizations will also be needed to inform consumers about these new aspects so we can finally <strong>re-evaluate red meat<\/strong> from the right perspective it deserves.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Over the past decade, several authoritative nutrition organizations have recommended limiting the consumption of red and processed meats.
